Deneen Fendig AKA Deneen Fendig
Deneen Fendig passed away peacefully April 3, 2013, at Elizabeth House Hospice Center near Hendersonville. She was born on June 21, 1947, in Brunswick, Ga. to parents Gladys Gowen Fendig and Albert Fendig Sr.
Deneen spent her childhood on St. Simons Island and developed her love for nature among the moss covered oaks and the marshes of Glynn. She enjoyed her extensive travels with her Mother and Father, the love of her brothers and sister, and wonderful times spent with caregivers, Nursie and James.
Deneen is survived by her sister, Jane; brothers, Jimmy and Albert; brother-in-law, Smitty; sisters-in-law, Ann and Joyce; daughter-in-law, Jennifer, and sons, Duncan and Jeff.
Later in life she began spending time in the mountains of North Carolina, raising her two sons, Jeff and Duncan, pursuing post-graduate work in psychology and working as a clinical therapist. Her approach to therapy drew from many sources and her primary goal in life was to help those in need.
During the last decade, Little Cumberland Island became an integral part of her life. She grew lemons, combed the beach for artifacts and became as much a part of the island as the sand dunes and the terns she loved. She was a fierce protector of the wild horses, turtles, birds and the natural beauty of the Island.
