The Paul Betrayal, The Plot Thickens

  • I don't know what to make of this situation. It seems that the campaign has fallen off the tracks for the past month. There will be a slew of opinion/theories of why this came to be, creating a wedge in the movement.

I trusted this campaign and hitched my wagon to its ideals. I became a delegate and fought for what I believed in through the system which disenfranchises real change. I realize now that no politician, no matter how consistent they are, can ever be trusted completely. It's the ideas that matter, not the leader.

I have issues with the cult of personality: Alex Jones, Ron Paul, Barack Obama, and others. I will not follow the person anymore because people are fallible. Ideas are not, and I will continue to support those ideas.

  • When Alex brought up the point that he simply stopped campaigning and stopped going on news shows for news shows, it hit me, that's true, and I hadn't been noticing it at all.

I believe a verified betrayal will make many in the movement scatter, then try to pick up the pieces from there.

It serves as beautiful lesson, like you said, about cult of personality.

I hope the community will remain to be built further, and not fracture off into a million pieces again.

  • It is really hard to understand why he would give up so easily. Even if his election was a shot in the dark, having him in the public sphere as a voice was immeasurably important. He was the only candidate that I even cared to listen to. Disappointing.
The future ahead of us is beyond our wildest imaginings. It can't be any other way. Business as usual is off the menu.
  • The unfortunate part of the voicing ideas is that you need a leader/mouthpiece/megaphone to get the message to a broader audience. It's like @Klorptar said "He was the only candidate that i even cared to listen to." It's almost impossible to have a movement without a leader. Maybe this internet thing can help.

  • I don't think it is a coincidence this came out after bilderberg. Then again, I'm not terribly surprised at the whole deal. Been following Paul since 2009, but always held the idea there might be controlled opposition.

  • Con Paul.

  • Think of Ron Paul's influence on American politics.

He legitimizes the political process in the eyes of the rational, dissenting minority. Essentially pacifying them.

Not saying he's complicit, but it makes you think....

As for Rand, politicians gon' politician.

  • ...is that really worth writing off Ron Paul?
(if the whole creationist, possible racist thing doesn't already cause you to wonder).

Here's a segment from Adam Kokesh, speaking with a long time staffer of RP. She tears up and hopes RP hasn't betrayed his campaign contributers, although "his portfolio has grown" <--paraphrase. <br />
Anyway, it's an interesting story that is painted... I'm just glad Adam decided to wear sleeves during this interview

  • You know, I wonder of Ron named his son after the other infamous "Rand".

  • @Doctor_Bob
Safe bet. Ayn Rand - free market, capitalist, non-aggression principle advocate. Very Paul-like.

    @Gods_Mustache
    Great post, thanks.

  • One thing we have to remember is that the movement is not about Ron Paul. It is about liberty. If Ron Paul is a sell-out, then so be it, but we shall overcome if we do not forget what is actually important. This could also be a political move by RP. I highly doubt that RP would forget where he stands, or that he would give much ground for future political involvement, though I could be wrong. Keep up the fight, friends. We are the movement. It does not have a head, therefore it cannot be killed.
  • Yeah. I think a lot of us understand that.

I'm not sure why people keep saying it.

Leaders emerge when the time is right. Just like Ron Paul did. They are merely conduits for ideas to be represented in popular culture for a period of time.

Yeah, it's quite sad that people are willing to overlook all sorts of shady shit because someone is pro-legalisation.

You saying this out of deep knowledge of liberalism's intellectual heritage or just spouting? I have a hunch which it is but would like to hear your take.

    Both.

This being the internet and all, snark is the primary force here.

As to deep knowledge, you can judge:

I'm well versed in the classic and current free market writings, work closely with a significant amount of entrepreneurs and am sympathetic to quite a bit of what Ayn Rand stole from Nietzsche. I consider myself an enemy of environmentally destructive Crony Capitalism that gives us abominations like Monsanto as well as human potential limiting Slave Morality Socialism that supports social parasites.

I read the Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, tons of stuff from Mises, listen to the Freedomain Radio when I have the chance.

I don't consider the crowds that represent the modern Republican party or the Libertarian party to be good representations of any of the above. There are of course individual exceptions.

This is dead on. Exactly what happened with progressives and Obama.

I imagine if Ron Paul made it to the White House he'd be shown that same unfamiliar footage of the Kennedy assassination Bill Hicks spoke of.
