"Looking Out My Backdoor"
  • Call me slowpoke but only today on the bus did I realize that "Looking out my backdoor" is about getting blasted on LSD.
After a quick google search apparently the magician mentioned in the verses is the "Polkadot Magician" a type of LSD that was going around at the time.

Just got home from Illinois locked the front door oh boy!
Got to sit down take a rest on the porch.
Imagination sets in pretty soon I'm singin'

Doo doo doo lookin' out my back door.

There's a giant doing cartwheels a statue wearin' high heels.
Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn.
A dinosaur Victrola list'ning to Buck Owens.

Doo doo doo lookin' out my back door.

Tambourines and elephants are playing in the band.
Won't you take a ride on the flyin' spoon?
    Doo, doo doo.
    Wond'rous apparition provided by magician.

Doo doo doo lookin' out my back door.

Tambourines and elephants are playing in the band.
Won't you take a ride on the flyin' spoon?
    Doo, doo doo.
Bother me tomorrow, today, I'll buy no sorrows.

Doo doo doo lookin' out my back door.

Forward troubles Illinois, lock the front door, oh boy!
Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn.
Bother me tomorrow, today, I'll buy no sorrow.

Doo doo doo lookin' out my back door.

  • You just blew my mind.

Always thought anal sex when I heard it. Or dirty, back room sex. So many songs about sleazy sex in the 70s had back doors in them.
"Up above aliens hover, making home movies for the folks back home of all these weird creatures that lock up their spirits, drill holes in themselves, and live for their secrets. They're all uptight" -Radiohead
  • interesting interpretation. I always took the lyrics literally

Me too, never really thought much into it.

For some weird reason I always thought it was about a guy who worked at a circus :s

    This is awesome. Thanks @dydbyb
  • That makes sense. I originally pictured John Foggerty with a yard full of weird lawn animals.
  • sounds like a Disney kid's movie looks.

Go use those big red lips and find a dick to suck.
  • Maybe he was just looking out his back door b/c he was worried about Morrison coming over to fuck his old lady...
The only thing worth doing is that which I can do by will alone... everything else is just passing time. (*)
